This is part a story idea i had. i wrote this last weekend, but i ran out of ideas for it. so i cant use this, but its nice... i guess
This was indeed a terrible maze, why had I been trapped here? Of course, I knew why, the dark master wanted the key badly. He was planning on using it to open the secret book, at least that’s what I imagined he’d do with it. But, there were other things that the key could do, many doors and chests to open with it. I just had to keep it away from the dark master and his workers, who were chasing me. It would be difficult, but after this whole journey I couldn’t just give up now, I had a duty to fulfill; not just to me, but to the entire world.
As I hurried down the hall, I could hear my pursuers gaining on me. They would soon have me captive, a prisoner to the dark master. I mustn’t let them catch me, I thought as I turned the corner. If I lost the key to them, everything we had worked for would be gone. It would be terrible, after this long journey, to lose everything that we worked so hard for; all the sacrifices we had to make. Of course, I wasn’t stupid and I wouldn’t let the dark master steal the key.
My heart was thudding in my chest, as I heard the gruff voices of the men. They were talking to each other about what direction to turn. There had been an intersection a little ways back; I assumed that they had just reached it. If that was the case, then they were farther behind than I had originally suspected. Even knowing that, I could not be lax. I had to quicken my pace, if I ever hoped to escape the dreadful maze.
When I opened the large door and walked into the parlor, I noticed a figure standing by the fire. Then, I heard voices right outside the door. I was trapped. Doomed, it was over. My pursuers had reached the room and there was another man right inside the room as well. There was no escape; a wave of panic swept over my body. I was sweating now and my heart was beating so rapidly, I expected it to explode any minute, if such a thing was possible.
The man by the fire walked down the steps and headed toward me. He was a tall gentleman, who looked rather elderly; his gray hair looked as if it needed a dye job soon. His face was a mass of wrinkles and the lines were set in so deep, it looked as if a knife had carved them. He walked almost crippled, his hunched back made him seem shorter than he was, if he was standing upright, he surely would’ve surpassed 6 feet.
He held out a glistening object, it was a knife. He raised the blade and pointed toward me. Was he making a threat? What exactly did he plan on doing with his weapon? Could he be the dark master, that I’ve heard so much about? I had a multitude of questions, but it didn’t appear that I would get any answers. I just hoped he wasn’t going to kill me, for that would be an easy task. I had no weapons, I was defenseless; and with those other men, it would be quite easy to grab hold of me while the elderly man slit my throat, or even worse. I shuddered to think about exactly what he was going to do with the gleaming blade of his.
He paced back and forth, once he had gotten a measurable distance near me. The men who had been chasing me were now surrounding us inside the parlor. I wondered what they planned on doing, obviously they wanted the key, but they hadn’t taken it yet. Were they playing cat and mouse with me? This whole situation was very strange, I wished they would take the key and let me leave the mansion. I hadn’t done much of anything to disturb them, only getting in their way a few times, but that was because I was trying to be a good citizen and do what was right.
Moments later, the elderly man spoke, “Well, you have been quite the trouble-maker but we’ll be putting an end to that right now. If you give me the key, I won’t need to use this knife, but if you don’t cooperate, there will be consequences. Is that understood?” He looked at me, expecting an answer. I nodded my head, unable to speak. The bob of the head was good enough for him, and he didn’t require any noise to accompany it.
He reached out his hand, expecting me to give me the key. I knew if I did, then I would’ve failed my whole mission, everything I had done would have been a waste of time. But, I knew I had to, for I didn’t want to risk my life for some stupid key, especially since I was devising a plan in my head. I was prepared and when I got out of the mansion, I knew exactly where I’d be heading.
Slowly, I reached out and dropped the rusty bronze key into his palm. He closed his fist around it and let out a sigh of relief. It seemed like he hadn’t expected me to give it up so easily. He then began chuckling to himself, and then announced, “I’ve done it! I have finally gotten the key! After all these years of searching for it, then when it was finally in my grasp you came along.” He pointed towards me. “But, you were a very wise boy today, and gave up the key. Or should I say very unwise? You see, I cannot simply let you leave, for I have a feeling that you will try to recover this item. So, I will let my men take care of you, dispose of the little brat.” Then, he turned and walked away; leaving me with the strong criminals.
I was scared; I had thought he was actually going to let me leave. But, that wouldn’t be what a criminal does, especially since I know so much about their plans. He knew I’d try to stop them, so he decided to not let me escape.
